Zotero Better Notes is a note-taking plug-in developed by @ windingwind for the document management software Zotero. It is completely open source, free, supports double-stranded notes, supports markdown and markup language, and deeply integrates document management and reading functions. The home page is

This document mainly introduces the basic functions and usage of Better Notes, and shares several workflows using Better Notes.
If you are carefully investigating all kinds of literature note-taking methods, you may feel big. How to choose a note-taking tool & method that suits you?
I recommend Better Notes to you here. Benefiting from Zotero and its open community, it is a note-taking tool that deeply combines document management and reading functions, so it does not need complicated configuration and cross-software linkage.

Many Zotero users have become accustomed to the note workflow linked by third-party software. Although Better Notes fully supports the completion of all notes in Zotero, it can also be used with third-party note-taking software, replacing multiple plug-ins, and even completing some operations that the original linked note-taking workflow cannot achieve.
On the other hand, Better Notes can also help simplify existing workflows. If you are using or planning to use markdown-based note-taking tools, such as Obsidian, LogSeq, etc., but are dissatisfied with the existing note-taking scheme:
- Complex configuration. Obsidian-Zotero-based literature notes require multiple plug-ins and related settings to be configured in two software, which is costly to learn
- Unaccustomed to operation. Writing notes in multiple software (e.g. Obsidian + Zotero) requires switching software, which may cause unnecessary mental burden and interference
