CCPP Framework Meeting Minutes 2021 09 07

Agenda

From next week, we will meet Thursday morning 8.30-9.30am --> first meeting September 16 (maybe cut short for some due to EPIC meeting)

Steve currently refactoring code for upcoming changes, improving flow of configuration information in preparation for variable actions
New GitHub project "capgen unification" https://github.com/NCAR/ccpp-framework/projects/3

All PRs regarding rules have been merged
PR 13 merged last week (updates of standard names, first 2/3 of what is used by UFS)
- Hope to have remaining 1/3 completed by end of September
Need update PRs for ccpp-physics, fv3atm and scm based on latest updates of PR 13
Extract/filter host-model specific standard names?
- Potentially a GSL student project next year

Plan to submit a joint proposal CU/CIRES (at NOAA/GSL) and NCAR/CGD aiming at the following targets
- JTTI-1b: improve components and coupling Techniques, in particular double/single precision physics
- JTTI-1d,iii: improve UFS / CCPP physics, including aerosol-radiation-cloud-precip interactions
  - This is of interest to NCAR, but needs to be aligned with parallel efforts that at NOAA
  - There will be a meeting tomorrow between the "relevant" people at NCAR and NOAA to discuss this
  - Funding for the NCAR side could go to people working on these aspects
- JTTI-1g: advance land model processes
Need to state that the proposed infrastructure work is enabling the science, because call for proposal has a focus on science
LOI due 09/14, but it needs to go to NCAR and CU/CIRES earlier for budget work etc.
