For collections with known source use the following text:
[Donated by/Transferred from] [source], [year].
If the collection was purchased
- We should only state that it was purchased if either it was sold by a third party or if the seller explicitly states that they would like it to be known. We would note that with the following text:
Purchased from [source], [year].
- If the seller does not explicitly give permission for us to state that the collection was purchased, then the note will read:
Received from [source], [year].
For collections with unknown source, but known date of acquisition, use the following text:
Received [year]. Source unknown.
For collections with unknown source and date of acquisition use the following text:
Source unknown.
